Are there any other factors?

Obviously the information on your loan application plays a part in the decision making process. It is worth remembering that there is no such thing as a credit blacklist, and each lender has their own policy in place to decide whether to lend to you or not. For instance, one lender may have a policy not to lend to someone with a CCJ; another lender may decide each case on individual merit. The amount of searches made on your report can also affect the decision. Your free credit check will reveal who has made these searches, together with their contact details should you wish to get in touch with them.

What goes into my credit report?

Your credit report contains details of personal information such as your name, recent addresses, date of birth, current and previous addresses; credit history such as credit account balances and limits, when you opened the accounts, when you made or missed payments; when the report has been accessed for previous credit checks; records of CCJs or bankruptcies; financial connections e.g. with a spouse. Your free credit check will show you all these criteria. Click here to see what information is held on your credit report

How is my credit score calculated?

You do not have a single credit rating score, and your credit report does not hold a final mark to describe your credit worthiness. Each lender may have a method of marking you to make a decision, but they each decide this mark according to their own internal policy. A factor that might put off one company from lending to you may be perfectly acceptable to another. When you view your free credit check you will see a National Credit Score as determined by Experian. This score is not the one used by lenders to determine whether they will lend to you or not.
