Car finance customers conscious of environment

New research suggests that about 25% of British car buyers consider the impact of their purchase on the environment before making a final decision.

The survey by credit reference agency Experian, suggests that many car finance customers care about how their new car will affect the environment.

Women were shown to be more concerned about the environment than men: 30% of female car customers said the environment was a key factor in their purchase decision, compared with 23% of men.

The managing director of Experian's automotive division, Kirk Fletcher, commented on the increase in concern for the environment on the part of car finance customers: "A car is the second biggest purchase a person is likely to make after a buying a house and customers concerned about the environment will have a lot of questions to ask before they make their final decision to buy," he said.

Fletcher also commented that car dealers ought to be able to provide
information about a vehicle's environmental credentials to potential buyers.
