Classic car auction to provide plenty of fodder for car loans

Classic cars, it seems, have an enduring appeal. A forthcoming Sotheby's auction is set to raise a credit crunch-busting £20 million by selling off 100 of the world's most sought-after vehicles.

Car loan customers with enough cash to splash can pick up the 1963 Ferrari 250 GT SWB California Spyder that was driven by Cameron Diaz in Charlie's Angels - it's estimated to go for around £3 million.

James Bond fans will be sorely tempted by Lot 216 - a silver 1965 Aston Martin DB5, which is much cheaper than the Ferrari at a mere £150,000-£180,000.

Celebrity vehicles are in plentiful supply: John Travolta's 1955 Ford Thunderbird has an estimated sale price of £30,000.

Rob Myers, founder of RM Auctions, commented: "Despite recent fluctuations in the financial markets, results from our recent North American events reveal a continued healthy outlook for the collector car industry and indicate the market for alternative investments remains strong."
