Lotus green car makes noise for car credit customers

Car credit customers who want to make a green purchase with their funds, but don't want to miss out on the thrill of a roaring engine now have an option in the form of the new Lotus car.

Most hybrid /electric cars are silent, but the new Lotus hybrid car has been purposely built to "roar" as though it had a fuel engine.

There had until now been a concern that electric cars, while eco-friendly, were not pedestrian-friendly. Their silence in turning corners could endanger people who were crossing the road, for instance, and hadn't spotted the car.

The car manufacturer explains that the Lotus's "safe and sound hybrid technology" simulates the growl of a combustion engine, making it "instantly recognisable that the vehicle is in motion."

Lotus have also installed a device that kicks in automatically to produce an artificial engine noise when the hybrid car runs on its electric motor, normally when the hybrid car's combustion engine takes over sensors that are fitted to the engine and suspension turn off the sound.

Car credit customers who are curious about how this sound is produced may be interested to know that a waterproof loudspeaker is responsible. The loudspeaker is positioned next to the vehicle's radiator to generate a roaring sound from under the bonnet.
